Fluid-Structure Interaction - FSI
In many technical and biological applications there is a direct interaction between the fluid flow and the structure. The flow influences the shape and position of solid bodies due to varying pressure conditions or forces. These changes have then an effect on the fluid flow. Examples for this are the flow in a valve, the flow around a sail, heart valves or pulsating flow in a blood vessel.
Coupled numerical simulations of flow processes and structure deformation allow to analyse these phenomena efficiently and to optimise the interaction of flow and solid body. The time dependent character of these processes is shown expressively in animations.
In medical technology this method is applied for example for the investigation of the human vessel system and the organs (for example blood vessels, trachea) and for the development and optimisation of multifarious medical devices (for example stents, balloon catheter, membrane pumps, heart valves).
Because of its competences in both fluid mechanics and structure mechanics as well ASD has the necessary broad expert knowledge in both fields needed for coupled simulations and can solve very complex tasks of its customers.
