Simulation of flow within a roller-pump tube

Functionality and haemocompatibility are basically determined by the final gap in the compressed tube. A smaller gap leads to a high blood damage because of high shear rates and direct deformation of the blood cells in the gap. If the gap chosen is too large the pump's output will be very negatively influenced. DOWNLOAD high resolution AVI

With the help of very sophisticated calculation methods such as CFD-analysis, ASD can investigate different models with varying geometry or boundary conditions in a relatively short time to find the best combination of the two most important parameters, i.e. gap width and flow rate.
ASD can also predict the whole pump's blood-damage potential.
An extensive and expensive series of prototypes and experimental blood pumps can thus be investigated or optimised quickly and effectively. Completely new design solutions can also be assessed rapidly.
