Creeping - the time leads to the failure
General - To secure the functionality of mechanical components and parts, they should also be analysed regarding possible creep behaviour. Mainly plastic materials have distinct creep characteristics, whereby creep describes complex processes of changes in molecular structure of the material. Therefore, the availability of material-specific creep curves showing dependencies on time, temperature and stresses are essential for this kind of nonlinear component analysis.
Aim - Incorporating creep laws into a finite element simulation, it is possible to predict and eliminate dangerous material failure with time.
Method - Based on a static analysis, a nonlinear finite element analysis involving creep material characteristics is performed. Various calculation methods are available, which display the actual load scenario for different constellations.
As a result, areas of the mechanical component can be determined where, considering a specific time frame, critical strains occur which can lead to failure or loss of functionality of the part.
