Haemolysis

Mechanical blood damage

In addition to the problem of blood coagulation, mechanical blood damage also plays an important role in medical devices in which the blood is exposed to high shear forces. Avoiding the resulting haemolysis is an important criterion when assessing the haemocompatibility of the device. To evaluate this criterion, the methods of flow simulation provide suitable analytical tools that allow a detailed insight into the processes in the device.
